The life and work of Ambedkar still remains a major guide to formulate the politics of caste elimination. The situation during last sixty years of republic has changed. We need to recall many of Ambedkar’s teachings to take guidance for today’s social and political struggles. This book is a small attempt in that direction.
E.V. Ramasamy propagated the principles of rationalism, self-respect, women’s rights and eradication of caste. He opposed the exploitation and marginalisation of the non-Brahmin Dravidian people of South India. His work has greatly revolutionised the Tamil society and has significantly removed caste-based discrimination. He is also responsible for bringing new changes to the Tamil alphabet. The citation awarded by the UNESCO described E.V. Ramasamy as “the prophet of the new age, the Socrates of South East Asia, father of social reform movement and arch enemy of ignorance, superstitions, meaningless customs and base manners.” This book has some selected works by him.

Puniyani had been teaching at IIT Mumbai till 2004. He took voluntary retirement to associate with various secular initiatives and has been part of numerous investigation reports on violation of human rights of minorities. Dr Abraham T. Kovoor was a free thinker and rationalist from Kerala, South India who later spent his entire life in Sri Lanka. He was the president of the Rationalist Association of Sri Lanka where he and Dr Carlo Fonseka held regular meetings at Thurston College, Colombo where he was once teaching. He came to the conclusion that there was absolutely no objective truth behind claims and beliefs regarding all kinds of alleged psychic, para-psychological and spiritual phenomena based on his intensive scientific researches for over half a century. He was the crowd pulling atheist orator of his time too.
Dr. Kovoor’s main aim was to enlighten people and teach them to go by reason and scientific verification.
